Testament's thrash metal sound opened up to other varieties of heavy metal, which they consistently continued on the following album "The Ritual". At the time of the release of "Souls Of Black", Testament were touring with Megadeth, Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies as part of the "Clash Of The Titans" package. "Souls Of Black" is considered a landmark guitar album and was ranked ninth in Guitar World magazine's top ten guitar albums in 1990.
